Learning across borders

Connecting experts, communities, and systems to strengthen disaster mental health worldwide

Mass trauma may take different forms in different parts of the world, but communities facing crisis often encounter many of the same fundamental challenges: how to prepare, how to reach people in distress, how to support responders, and how to sustain care over time.

PreAct brings together expertise and experience across countries to strengthen this shared body of knowledge. Its work connects Mount Sinai and Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) with communities, professionals, and organizations working in different settings.

The goal is not to export a single solution. Instead, PreAct uses global learning to inform local action, while bringing lessons from local communities back into the broader conversation.

This creates a two-way exchange: communities contribute knowledge about what works in their own context, while practitioners and researchers can share approaches, evidence, and experience from elsewhere.

By building these connections, PreAct works toward a more collaborative approach to disaster mental health - one that is globally informed, locally grounded, and responsive to the realities of the communities it serves.
