Preparing the next generation

Building the clinical expertise needed to respond to mass trauma at scale

Mass trauma requires mental health professionals who can work beyond the traditional clinical setting - supporting individuals while understanding communities, systems, and the realities of crisis response.

PreAct’s training work includes developing clinical training in disaster mental health at Mount Sinai and Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov). The goal is to prepare mental health professionals to respond to trauma, mass casualty events, and community-level mental health needs.

Training combines academic knowledge with practical experience, connecting emerging clinicians with experienced professionals in disaster psychiatry and exposing them to the realities of working in high-pressure, rapidly changing environments.

Disaster mental health requires a distinct set of capabilities. Professionals may need to work across disciplines, support frontline teams, adapt to changing needs, and contribute to coordinated responses across multiple systems.

By bringing these skills into clinical training, PreAct helps build a workforce prepared not only to treat trauma, but to contribute to stronger mental health preparedness and response at the community and system level.
