Healthcare professionals, first responders, social workers, and other frontline workers can face significant psychological demands during and after mass trauma. Repeated exposure to suffering, uncertainty, loss, and high-pressure situations can affect their ability to continue providing care.
PreAct integrates workforce protection into its preparedness and training approach. Professionals learn to recognize signs of secondary traumatic stress and burnout while developing practical approaches to peer support, psychological safety, and sustainable ways of working during demanding periods.
This work also extends to team leaders and organizations. Supporting a workforce through crisis requires more than individual coping strategies. It requires work environments that allow for psychological safety, reflective supervision, appropriate operational structures, and attention to cumulative stress.
The goal is to help teams sustain their capacity to provide care while recognizing and addressing the psychological impact of crisis on those delivering it.
For PreAct, a prepared mental health system is equipped to support both those who need care and those who provide it.
