Technology for real-world response

Building digital tools that support mental health care when and where it is needed

Large-scale crises can put mental health systems under significant strain. More people may need support at once when fewer professionals are available and resources are limited.

PreAct explores how digital tools can help meet this challenge. This includes digital and AI-supported tools for screening and triage, helping identify needs and make better use of available mental health resources.

The work starts with the needs identified through PreAct’s work with communities and frontline systems; technology is then developed to address those needs in practical ways.

Accessibility is a key part of this approach - tools used in crisis settings need to be useful across different populations, systems, and levels of available resources.

By combining human expertise with digital tools, PreAct aims to strengthen the people and systems providing mental health care, not replace them. The goal is to support better decisions, stronger coordination, and more responsive care when demand is high.
